Started Riveting Right LE To Spar
Today I started riveting the right LE to the spar. This is an awefully painful process. You basically have to reach through the lightening holes to the back side of the rivet to form the shop head. I think that I could really use the 3x rivet gun here, since the 2x seems to struggle a bit with the 4-X rivets. We'll see.
Jaime helped me for a while but I just gave up instead of getting frustrated and taking out on her....yes...it was that bad.
We didn't finish. We got the outboard rib riveted and it's OK (although we scratched the crap out of the inside of the rib. That will get scotchbrited, cleaned and primed over it's so bad.
So after Jaime went back in I decided to set the skin-to-spar rivets. I see no reason they can't be set now. The interesting thing about the wing and the monocoque design is that the biggest load on the wings is put on the spar-to-skin rivets. Amazing!
Burton is supposed to come over Thursday and help me rivet the spar web to rib rivets so we'll see how it goes with someone who's actually done it before.
