Started Center Section Buildup
Today I went out and started working on the center section. This is what it looks like immediately after being unpacked.
I spent quite a while looking over the drawing and trying to make sense of everything. You don't want to screw this up beyond repair -- it's match-drilled to the wing spars -- the wings that took me several months to build! :-S
Next they have you drill out several holes to 5/8 for snap-bushings. There are several of these. The one pictured here is intended for electrical runs.
Then they have you start match-drilling some of the parts together (I don't really understand why these aren't already match-drilled since the rest of the center section is. Oh well.
You can see here the NAS close-tolerance bolt that's supposed to go in here. The plans have you insert a close-tolerance bolt to make sure that everything stays lined up while you match-drill. I thought for a little while then decided to freeze the bolts over night. I should be able to get these in after that.
By the time I finished playing with the bolts it was already 9:30 -- time to go in for the night. I worked late today but hopefully tomorrow I'll get home earlier and continue on this part.
