Riveted Subpel and Ribs; Canopy Latch Drill Guide
Today I finished riveting the subpanel stuff (except the center which will get cut for the radio stack) and I also prepared all of the UHMW blocks where the canopy hinges. Here you can see where I had to cleco the forward skin on so the UHMW blocks and ribs could be in their proper locations when I drilled.
Now gettin serious with the canopy stuff. There are two latches that hold the canopy closed on the tip-up style canopies. There is a latch on the side and a latch at the top center. This template is provide as a location for drilling the holes on the side skin. I took a piece of wax paper and traced the template onto it...then taped the wax paper to a piece of aluminum and made a drill guide.
Here you can see the drill guide temporarily taped into place. The neat thing about the drill guide is you can hold it up to the drawing to confirm that it was made properly.
