Wings Final Installed!
Today Steve Ashby and Sam Beale helped me move my wings to the airplane and install them on the fuselage. It was quite a bit of work to just get them there, much less to get them on the fuselage. Steve had a nice big trailer that fits the wings well. Unfortunately we couldn't get the wings in the trailer while in the cradle so we had to lay them flat. It was a little nerve-wracking and I honestly did wonder if they would be OK once we got them there but they were fine. Anyway...we applied a little grease to each bolt and drove them in with my 3x gun. They slid right in!
After we got the wings installed we very appropriately went to a place over by my house for edible wings. The wings were good...the garage band was WAAAY too loud.
I actually forgot my camera and this photo was taken the next day. Steve took a lot of pictures and I'll post them here when I get them from him.
Steve and Sam: Thank you very much for your help!!!
Update: Steve Ashby sent me some photos he took so here they are. Here I'm measuring the wings in the cradle to see if they would fit in his trailer -- nope...they don't fit.
So this is what we did instead -- we laid down blankets and put the left wing down in the fuselage...then we laid couch cushinons, blanket, etc. between the wings. We also screwed some wooden blocks to the floor of his trailer to make sure the wings didn't slide fore/aft. The stuffed animal served as wing guardian. As luck would have it, the only thing that moved during the trip was the wing guardian. :-)
Here's proof that I'm working on this stuff. Here I am in the fuselage trying to get drift pins aligned.
Here I am with the finished product.
