Joint Plate Nutplates; Faxed Fuselage Order
Today I went out and riveted on the nutplates to both joint plates. This took forever, what with all the drilling, clecoing, countersinking...
Then I screwed the joint plates onto the tanks to ensure a proper fit. They fit nice and snug.
Then I taped over the holes on the outside of my skins. This is a Painter original...so we'll see how it works. The intent is to keep the alumiprep and alodine from getting on the outside of the skin when I'm prepping the insides for riveting.
Also today I faxed out my order for the fuselage kit. Our plan is to pay the remaining balance before the end of the month so that we can lock in the 2004 prices. If you've read my decisions page or you know me personally, you'll know that I've been struggling with the choice of forging ahead with my original plan of the tricycle gear or building the taildragger. You have to commit when order the fuselage so today was decision time. And my choice was....
Stay with the tricycle gear. The reason? It was going to cost me a WHOLE lot more to insure the taildragger than the tricycle gear. Plus, I would be required to build more tailwheel time that would cost extra money, etc. So it basically came down to how much do *I* really want the taildragger. Well, not that much!
So that's my decision and I'm sticking to it and not looking back.
