Riveted Left Leading Edge; Tank-To-LE Joint Problem
Today Burton came over again and helped me rivet the left leading edge. He shot while I bucked. It came out really well and then we clecoed it to the spar and threw the tank up there to check the fit. Looks, good, huh? WRONG! See below.
The whole tank-to-skin joint looks like it's lined up rather well except this part. There is definate pillowing going on here.
And here's another shot from a little farther away. I'm not building a showplane, so I have not been obsessing about cosmetic things...but this is totally unacceptable.
Burton and I messed around with it for an hour or so and couldn't really get it to improve. I've read about other folks having a simlar problem, but there's is usually related to the distance between the tank and LE skin and usually not this pillowing type effect. I'm going to do some research tomorrow and see if I can find anything about this.
Thanks again for the help, Burton!
