Today I went and finished match-drilling the ailerons. This is fairly straight-forward except for the counterbalances, which are galvanized water pipe (yes, I said water pipe) which take a little oohmph to drill through. It probably would have been easier if I would have drilled the holes initially to #40 then enlarged them to #30, but oh well...you get through 'em ok with just the #30.
While I'm thinking about it...something that's amazing to me...the ailerons on RV's are one of the most complimented controls in that they are so well balanced and have the 'perfect' feel to them....and hey...they use a WATER PIPE as a counter balance. That Van sure is a smart guy!

..and here is the left one. Note the clecos in the leading edge skin where I matched drilled the counterbalance to it.
