Drilled Seat Back Gussets
Not much work on the project today (that's starting to sound TOO familiar), but I did go out and drill these seat-back gussets on both sides.
I started obsessing over the right aft canopy deck. This thing is about 3/64 off in the center. If you've read some of my earlier posts, you'll see that I had some trouble getting this part to fit once I flipped the fuselage. You may think that 3/64 is no big deal, but it's enough to cause some pre-loading when I cleco it on all the way down...and I don't want to pre-load this component...especially since it would ALSO pre-load the longeron...which is a big no no. So what I'm going to do is call Van's on monday and see if they can send me a NON-pre-punched component. I will clamp the non-prepunched part on the longeron and backdrill through the holes already in the longeron, file down the outter edge of the deck to be flush with the side skin and voila...no pre-loading. Yes...technically the side rail here is going to be about 3/64 off....but that's something I'm going to have to live with.
