Installed Alternator; Began Hanging Exhaust
Today I installed the alternator. I contemplated not using this unit. This is the alternator that comes with Van's FWF kit. Many people recommend the B&C unit, which is really just a remanufactured automotive unit at 4x or more the price of the original. I won't go into the differences here, but I honestly don't think it's worth it. This is the model that Van's uses in their demonstrators. If it's good enough for Van, it's good enough for me. I ran over to my local auto parts store and picked up the belt recommend by Van's, but it doesn't fit. It's just a little too short. I'm going to go back and pick up two more (1/2 and 1 inch more) to see which fits better. Some people have reported having the adjustment brackets crack so I made sure to polish mine on my scotch-brite wheel to try and prevent that from happening.
Since I was working on the FWF, I started bolting on the exhaust. This exhaust system is so easy to hang it's not even funny. The hardest part is believing that this is all there is to it. Torquing the bolts at the bottom of the cylinders is going to be another matter entirely.
