Disecant Plugs; Started Drilling H-stab to Fuse
As mentioned yesterday, I wanted to dry out my disecant plugs. I emptied them into this old muffin pan that Jaime donated to the cause. You can see that many of them turned pink rather quickly. Georgia has very high humidity. As I'm updating this (10:00pm on the 6th), the humidity stands at 77%. It's not unusual to see over 95% during the day.
After a while in the oven they're nice and blue again.
Ok, back to mounting the h-stab. I finally started drilling the holes. This picture should really be rotated 90 degrees...but I didn't do it. Anyway...the rivet you see sticking down there is temporary to hold the h-stab in place. That will get drilled out to #12 for an AN3 bolt. Note how you have to drill this hole 'blind' and it must meet edge distance requirements for the longeron. Since the lower angle overlaps the longeron you sort of have to get the hole directly in the middle. This was definately a tongue-biting procedure. It took the better part of 3 hours to drill this hole and it's mate on the other side.
